Three Twisted Sisters

The famed ‘Three Twisted Sisters’ is arguably Texas’ premiere destination for motorcycle and car enthusiasts. This 100mi loop is one of the best, most challenging roads in the state, chock full of jagged, steep hills and an unending number of twists.

The “Three Sisters” refers to the three Ranch Roads 335, 336, and 337 around the Leakey, TX area. RR 337 also does extend out east past Leakey towards Vanderpool, but this map shows what a typical “lap” looks like if you’re staying with us in Leakey.

Experienced riders will be in absolute bliss, but beginners will definitely want to slow down and “ride their own ride”. Not to scare you off, but some of the twists are quite tight, and the elevation changes can be akin to a rollercoaster drop.

  • First, I highly recommend fueling up in Leakey before you head out through the sisters. Using this route, you’ll cover around 75mi before you have another chance to fill up in Camp Wood.
  • Heading North through Leakey, veer off left onto RR 336 just after you pass the school. You’ll be in for a treat, because the next 25mi on 336 are some of the best roads on planet Earth. It’s a varied mix of twist, turns, and elevation changes. Both super-tight corners and long sweepers.
  • 336 will dead-end into Hwy 41, just make a left onto 41 to jog over to the next sister.
  • Turn left again down RR 335. In some ways RR 335 is an even wilder ride than the first, with some truly incredible elevation changes that would make a lot of rollercoasters blush.
  • RR 335 will begin to chill out as you head into the town of Camp Wood. There’s a gas station there on the corner that marks your turn onto the third sister, RR 337.
  • RR 337 caps off the route with some incredible overlooks as you get close to Leakey. Some of them with plenty of room to pull off and get some great photos.
  • As you come back into Leakey on RR 337, you’ll pass the Oak Hill Cabins again, as well as the famous Bent Rim Grill which is next door. Highly recommend stopping by the Bent Rim Grill, its a really cool spot with surprisingly good food. That’s also where you can get your Twisted Sisters tshirt, stickers, or other swag.
